Sylvia Fowles is an American professional basketball player who is known for having played for the Minnesota Lynx of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). She became the MVP of the 2015 WNBA Finals after joining the Minnesota Lynx in July 2015 and later won the 2017 WNBA MVP Award.

She was raised in Miami-Dade’s neighborhoods like Coconut Grove, Little Haiti, and the Victory Home Housing Projects.

After the death of her grandmother, Fowles became interested in mortuary science as a child and used to hold funerals for her stuffed animals.

She suffered an injury in her right knee during a game against the University of Miami in December 2007 and had to undergo surgery.

As a member of the United States women’s national basketball team, Sylvia Fowles won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

In 2010, she founded the Sylvia Fowles Family Fund to help the needy children.

In the year 2016, she became the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year for the 3rd time.

Sylvia Fowles has served as a spokesperson for the Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE). Also, her 2 nephews have suffered from epilepsy.

She was a part of Team USA for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and won her 3rd gold medal as the USA beat Spain by 101-72.

She started knitting when she was 6 years old and has continued it as a hobby.
