Zachary Scott Facts
His ancestry can be directly traced back to Betty Washington Lewis, who was the only surviving sister of the first American President George Washington.
Among Scott’s many hobbies were horse riding, golfing, swimming, gourmet cooking, classical music, antique collecting, and gardening.
In spite of growing up fairly wealthy, he sadly died penniless with only a $100,000 insurance policy that he left for his widow.
Scott was promptly arrested in the summer of 1961 for public intoxication and doing a hula dance in front of a bar in Hawaii.
He was awarded a star at 6349 Hollywood Boulevard in the Motion Pictures section of the Hollywood Walk of Fame on February 8, 1960.
He once went river rafting with actor John Emery in the Topanga Canyon area when a riptide capsized his boat. Scott was flung out of the boat and knocked unconscious after hitting his head on a rock. Fortunately, Emery rescued him and carried him to shore safely. However, this near-fatal incident left a mark on him and he battled with depression for several years following this incident.
In 1968, his home state’s oldest continuously operating theater (which also happened to be one of the country’s 10 original resident theater companies) was dedicated to him and renamed the Zachary Scott Theatre.
